Recipe: Butter Cookies that melt like first love
There’s something truly comforting about classic butter cookies. Maybe it’s their soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture, or that rich buttery taste that feels like a warm hug.
These cookies are simple, but they have a way of bringing people together—whether it’s at a holiday party, a cozy family gathering, or just a quiet moment with coffee.
What makes them so lovable is how easy they are to bake. No fancy ingredients, no complicated steps—just butter, sugar, flour, and a touch of vanilla. That’s it. And yet, they turn into something magical in the oven.
For many of us, butter cookies carry sweet memories: grandma’s handwritten recipe, the shiny cookie tins during festive seasons, or baking with friends on a lazy afternoon. You can enjoy them plain or dress them up with sprinkles, jam, or chocolate—either way, they always feel special.
Today I want to share something soft and sweet — the easy butter cookies recipe that feels like a gentle hug. These cookies are easy to make, but they carry a lot of feeling.
Every bite is warm, like a memory of someone you liked in school. You know, that kind of love that makes your heart smile without saying a word.
I made these cookies on a quiet afternoon, thinking about someone I used to like. The butter was soft, the sugar was sweet, and my heart was full. I hope when you make them, you feel the same — calm, happy, and maybe a little bit in love.
Why the Butter Cookies feel like puppy love
- Simple and sweet: Just like a first crush — soft, easy, and unforgettable.
- Smells like comfort: Butter and vanilla make your kitchen feel like home.
- Melts in your mouth: Like a shy smile from someone you care about.
- Perfect for sharing: Give them to someone you love, or someone you want to love.
Check the list of ingredients (for 40–50 butter cookies)
- 120g Unsalted dairy butter (melted and cooled to a paste)
- 120g Powdered sugar (icing sugar)
- 1 large egg (60 – 65g including shell)
- 3ml Vanilla extract
- 200g Bread flour (No. 13) or All-purpose flour (No. 11)
- Optional: Soak 50g cranberries in warm water (3-5 min) for stamen, or pineapple jam.
How to make Butter Cookies at home
- Prepare Butter: Melt butter, then let it cool until it reaches a thick, paste-like consistency.
- Mix Base: Sift sugar into the butter. Add the egg and vanilla; whisk until well combined.
- Add Flour: Gradually sift in flour. Stop when the dough is thick and cohesive. It should pipe easily with smooth edges; if too dry, add 1-2 tsp of whisked egg.
- Shape & Fill: Fill a piping bag fitted with a Wilton 1M tip (max 200g dough at a time). Pipe flower shapes and place a cranberry or a dot of pineapple jam in the center as the “stamen.”
- Preheat & Bake: Preheat oven to 200°C for 15+ minutes. Bake at 190°C for ~10 minutes. Once slightly golden, lower the temperature to 180°C and bake for another 3–5 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
- Cooling: Turn off the oven, crack the door open, and let the cookies sit inside for 3–5 minutes. Let cookies firm up on the tray before moving to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Storage: Store in an airtight container with a desiccant pack in a cool place for up to 3 weeks.
Some tips for you
- Use good butter — it makes everything better.
- Don’t mix too much — cookies need softness, just like feelings.
- Add vanilla or lemon zest if you want a little sparkle.
- Keep cookies in a box. They stay good for 7 days.
For a raspberry version, place a small piece of fresh or dried raspberry (soaked for 3–5 minutes and drained) in the center of each cookie. Using a Wilton 1M tip, pipe the dough in vertical circular motions to create flower shapes, filling the bag with only 200g at a time for better control. Finish by placing a raspberry or a dollop of pineapple jam in the center as the “stamen” before baking to ensure a soft, jam-like bite.

When you can share your homemade delights with friends and family, baking at home is an ideal way to relax and enjoy yourself. When you take freshly baked cakes or cookies out of the oven and watch everyone’s faces light up as they eat into them, it’s especially pleasant.
